Unisex fragrances — also called gender-neutral or shared fragrances — are designed to be worn by anyone regardless of gender. This category has grown substantially in modern perfumery.
What Makes a Fragrance Unisex?
There is no chemical or olfactory rule that makes a scent "male" or "female." Fragrance gendering is primarily a marketing convention. Unisex fragrances tend to avoid the extremes of traditionally gendered scent profiles:
- They may lean woody or musky without heavy sweetness
- They may feature spices, citrus, or green notes that are considered neutral
- They often avoid heavy powdery florals (traditionally feminine) or strong fougère/barbershop notes (traditionally masculine)
Popular Unisex Fragrances at JAMEELA
Oud Maluky by Nafahat — 100ml
An oriental unisex fragrance centred on oud. Oud is traditionally a gender-neutral note in Middle Eastern perfumery.
Philos Rosso by Maison Alhambra — 100ml EDP
An oriental unisex EDP that works across gender lines.
Infini Musk by Maison Alhambra — 100ml
A musk-forward oriental that demonstrates how musk — a traditionally neutral note — can serve as a unisex base.
Ajayeb Dubai Portrait by Lattafa — 100ml EDP
A fruity-tropical-woody-oud blend. The combination of fruit and oud creates a complex scent that avoids gendered expectations.
The Case for Trying Unisex
Fragrance is personal. A scent that is marketed to one gender may smell entirely different — and potentially better — on someone of another gender. The "unisex" label simply removes one layer of marketing assumption from the selection process.
